A psychotherapist with a focus on the mind + body connection, Melissa St. Jean is a Movement Analyst, Yoga Instructor, and board-certified Dance/Movement Therapist. While St. Jean's areas of expertise include stress, mood, and anxiety disorders, her highly specialized treatment of those with trauma and life transitions is served by a cutting-edge Dance/Movement technique she’s incorporated into an innovative therapy.
St. Jean studied psychology and dance at the University of Massachusetts Amherst where she received the combined BS/BFA. She continued with graduate studies at Columbia College Chicago, and was awarded the MA in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling. St. Jean is an LCPC: Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
She was one of 252 young women who flocked to Chicago to twirl, sway, and sashay their way onto the Luvabulls dance team in 2009, and performing to Justin Timberlake's supercharged "SexyBack" St. Jean had an added challenge. She’d arrived at the Chicago Bull’s dance tryout in a moving van at the conclusion of a 17-hour road trip from Boston!
This Massachusetts transplant fell in love with the Midwest and in addition to being a graduate student, and professional dancer for the NBA, she actually worked her way through school at Lululemon’s Michigan Avenue Flagship Store. Their motto ‘elevating the world from mediocrity to greatness’ inspired her then as now.
St. Jean holds that dance is a form of revelation. “Dance for me a minute and I’ll tell you who you are," she says. "The body never lies.” She and husband — Dr. David St. Jean — met at UMass Amherst, and have returned to their native Massachusetts to practice in Boston's North Shore.
